Why does my RYOBI Angle Grinder keep cutting out?

07/02/2025, 19:11

Angle Grinders are commonly equipped with several user safety and tool protection systems, such as overload, over-temperature, and anti- kickback.

Consider the following that could be causing the issue:

Cause Solution
Excess Force
  • Excessive force will slow the motor significantly, which can overload the protection system, causing the tool to cut out.
  • Try reducing the amount of downwards force applied to the workpiece.
Angle of application
  • Your Angle Grinder may be cutting out if you’re cutting the material at an angle that’s leaning or tilting onto the disc.
  • To prevent any excess force or load on the disc, make sure the material you’re cutting is properly supported using clamps, and is on an even surface.
Battery
  • Ensure your battery has enough charge.
  • There may be a small drop in performance to the tool when the battery is below half charge. If it’s affecting your application, we recommend fully charging your battery.
  • The capacity (Ah) of battery can affect the performance.
  • We recommend a minimum 4.0Ah battery when grinding (see What size battery is recommended for my Angle Grinder? )

If the issue persists and your product is still within the warranty period, take it back to the retail store along with your receipt or proof of purchase for warranty assessment.
